Monica Jerome Maina has worked for the firm for almost 20 years, and concentrates on our most complex cases, primarily in the areas of pharmaceutical product liability, mass tort litigation, and catastrophic medical malpractice. Monica has successfully represented many patients injured by drugs and medical devices, including Vioxx, Baycol, Redux, fen-phen, the Defibrillator manufactured by Medtronic and the Dalkon Shield IUD.
She is currently representing hundreds of cleints in the litigation involving Vioxx and the Medtronic Heart Defibrillator. In addition she has previously represented clients who suffered rhabdomyolysis caused by the medication Baycol; homeowners in Pascoag, RI whose water and properties have been damaged by MTBE and in Tiverton, RI whose properties have been severely contaminated with cyanide, arsenic, mercury and lead caused by the dumping of toxic waste by a predecessor of the New England Gas Company; and several families particularly devastated by medical malpractice.
She is a member of many attorneys' networks, including several litigation groups within the American Trial Lawyers Association. Monica works closely with mass tort lawyers and physicians around the country investigating mass torts and emerging drug litigation. Monica received her B.A. from UMass/Dartmouth in 1986 and her law degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1992 She previously defended cases from 1986-1989 as an insurance adjuster for two leading local insurance companies.
